Nike launches a new 3D print shoe upper fabric FlyPrint, running shoes weighing as low as 12 grams.

According to the world clothing shoes and hats net, Nike The latest launch of the new Zoom Vaporfly Elite Gym shoes Using FlyPrint Shoe upper For the first time, the technology of 3D printing fabric was applied to functional sports shoes for the first time. The famous marathon runner, Eliud Kipchoge, will wear the sneaker in the London Marathon in April 22nd to launch a shock to the world record.

In essence, Nike Flyprint vamp is molded by solid deposition (SDM). This process is to release the TPU fibers from the coils and melt them, and then the process of weaving and curing layers.

In order to make Flyprint shoe upper, Nike first collected the data of athletes, then determined the ideal synthetic materials through data calculation, and finally constructed fabric upper based on these information. This reflects the multifaceted nature of Flyprint (Nike Flyprint technology can create unique fabric vamp for different athletes or functional requirements), and at the same time, the overall design time can be greatly reduced, which is 16 times faster than the previous production methods.

Compared with the traditional 2D material, 3D fabric can provide better stretching force. In 3D printing fabrics, the weaving lines blend with each other, so that they have higher precision and performance potential. In addition, compared with the materials used before, Flyprint fabrics are lighter and have better air permeability.

As far as design speed is concerned, compared with traditional fabric upper, Flyprint technology can help Nke create the most suitable design in the shortest time, so that athletes can benefit more.

Nike Flyprint 3D printing fabric can also be seamlessly linked to other materials, especially Flyknit yarns. The combination of these two materials can achieve a good balance between the degree of adhesion and structural requirements. In fact, Flyknit yarns can even be thermally bonded with Flyprint fabrics without any glue or suture.

Roger Chen, senior director of digital innovation, said Nike has been studying 3D printing technology for nearly ten years, but mainly for developing shoe models. Now Nike uses the technology to develop fabrics, hoping to meet more business needs.

Chen explained that the weight of this new shoe is 12 grams, 6% lighter than that of the previous generation of Vaporfly Elite, and has a more efficient moisture absorption and sweating capacity.

Brett Holts, vice president of Nike running shoes, said that although the shoe was made for elite athletes, the lightweight shoe upper technology will be applied to more running shoes in the future. In fact, during the London Marathon, small quantities of sneakers using FlyPrint fabrics will be sold in small quantities at a price of $600.

FlyPrint fabrics also conform to the personalized trend of footwear and clothing. Holts added: "this is the vision of the industry as a whole. FlyPrint means that we are taking a step towards the ultimate goal of individuation."
