The brand Banana Republic of the US professional clothing retailer GapInc will adopt the new eco indigo yarn dyeing process and use foam instead of water to eliminate 99% water for general indigo dyeing.

The new process of anhydrous Indigo is developed by TejidosRoyo, a famous Spanish fabric factory, which has the highest priority in environmental performance. Compared with the traditional dye indigo process (shasherindigoorsheetdyeing) process, it can reduce the use of 89% chemicals, reduce 65% energy consumption and eliminate water emissions.

"Using this revolutionary new dyeing process to directly support GapInc's manufacturing goal, we can save 10 billion litres of water by the end of 2020, and the sustainable development goals of the banana republic's recently announced production of environmental denim, reduce the impact of water resources and promote clean chemistry," said ChristopheRoussel, vice president of GapInc global sourcing. TejidosRoyo is a trustworthy partner and has become a real pioneer in sustainable innovation. We are delighted to cooperate with them in this new venture, which will undoubtedly change the future of denim manufacturing.

DryIndigo technology uses a foam dye that can be adhered to the yarn. The cowboy fabric produced is comparable to traditional dyed denim in terms of handle, aesthetics, performance and washability.

The banana republic denim produced by DryIndigo technology will be launched in 2020 in a special spring series for men's and women's wear. The 2 production lines will include selective purchasing and sustainable making of bags and accessories. Such as recycled polyester zipper tape, which is certified by 100% global recovery standard (GRS).

This will be completed in a most advanced and sustainable factory, Saitex, which can recycle 98% of the water. At present, the production process of DryIndigo is unique to TejidosRoyo. The banana republic is one of the first brands to launch the technology, and the jeans giant Wrangler.

To create this breakthrough dyeing process, GastonFoamSystems and IndigoMillsDesigns need to cooperate for ten years before they can be launched. Foam dyeing technology can not be produced in space less than 65 feet, compared with traditional dyeing machines usually need to dye hundreds of feet of cloth, thereby significantly reducing resource consumption needs.

Garment industry is one of the largest and most intensive industries. In response to the close cooperation between Gap and supply chain partners, many water saving measures have been implemented. In 2016, Gap launched Washwell, an intelligent denim cleaning process. Compared with traditional cleaning methods, the company can save more than 229 million liters of water. The company recently announced that it has saved 5 billion 700 million litres of water resources through many efforts. The banana republic will adopt the Washwell water saving scheme in 2020.

In early June, Gap announced its cooperation with ArvindLimited, a partner in Gap's long-term procurement and authorization operation in India, and opened a new innovation center focused on reducing water consumption in textile manufacturing.
