In 1999, the China Textile Institute was transformed into a large technology enterprise directly under the central government. In 1998, the China Textile Institute started the research of new cellulose and fiber related technology and equipment in the solvent method. In 2004, it carried out a three month development strategy discussion. After repeated argumentation and research, China Textile Institute put forward a new research direction of "bio based, green environmental protection and renewable" as the core of the development strategy committee, focusing on Lyocell fiber.

In December 23, 2016, the annual production of 15 thousand tons of Lyocell fiber project in China Textile Institute was completed at one time, and the performance of the products reached the expected target. They have completely proprietary intellectual property rights, and the localization rate of the equipment is 100%.

Lyocell fiber is the most controversial green fiber in the global textile industry, and China's long-term dependence on imports has made the achievement of the 18 years of the sword in the China textile mill not only solves the problem of "localization" on the localization industry, but also has a far-reaching impact on the adjustment of raw material structure in the future textile industry development. It is reported that at present, China spun green fiber has built a 30 thousand ton production line in the company. It is expected that the industrial scale of 1 million tons of Lyocell fiber will be built in 2023.
