Punitive Duty

The trump government of the United States will start punitive tariffs on EU products worth 7 billion 500 million US dollars, because the World Trade Organization (WTO) officially sanctioned US trade sanctions against European aircraft manufacturers Airbus.

The record $7 billion 500 million ruling found that the European Group and Member States Britain, France, Germany and Spain failed to cancel the improper financial subsidies to Airbus Co, which violated the WTO rules and hampered the sale of rival Boeing.

US tariffs on European imports vary from aircraft to clothing, wine, Scotch whisky, olives and cheese. Although the affected countries are all over Europe, Britain, France, Germany and Spain are the most severe sanctions, which are members of the consortium that makes Airbus airliners.

For American consumers, these measures will make a series of European products more expensive. Although the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) can impose a 100% tariff on the affected products, "the time", the trump government said it would impose a punitive tariff of 10% on large civil aircraft, limiting the punitive duty of agricultural products and other products to 25%. The United States has the right to raise tariffs or change target products.

Boeing is a competitor of Airbus Co in the world aircraft market. At the same time, the United States is also seeking approval from WTO to impose tariffs on US exports of one billion US dollars in the US dispute over Boeing subsidies.
