British Clothing Imports Fell 12% In The First Quarter And China'S Market Share Shrank

In the first quarter of this year, British clothing imports fell 12% year-on-year. However, as the unit price of imports soared by 15.5%, the import volume increased by 1.7% year-on-year.


Bangladesh became the largest supplier in the first quarter, while China's market share continued to decline slightly, especially in the woven apparel category. In the first quarter, British imports of clothing from Bangladesh surged by 34%, while imports from China fell by 8.7%. Imports of knitted garments from China rose slightly, but imports of woven garments fell by 19%.


At present, China's clothing imports still account for 16.1%, while Italy, Turkey, India and the Netherlands are in the narrow range of 6.2% to 7.4%.


In terms of quantity, the import of T-shirts increased by 18.9% in the first quarter compared with the same period of last year, while the import of pullovers fell by 4.5%. Imports of men's / boys' woven shirts fell by 59%, and men's / boys' suits and trousers also fell sharply.
