The sixth round of negotiations between the UK and the EU will begin on August 17, 2020. However, the two sides still have divergent views on the future arrangements in the fields of fishery rights, government assistance and financial services. It is generally expected that significant progress will not be made until September.

(1) Fishing rights

At present, 75% of the catch in the UK is exported to the EU. The main problem is that neither side can determine the fishing quota.

(2) New customs regulations

After January 1, 2021, some groups are still lobbying the UK to implement a "minor" border inspection regulatory system. On the other hand, other groups hope to establish a more stringent system. But many companies are not willing to take investment risks until they see the specific pattern of trade between the EU and the UK. "Zero tariff" means that the EU's chief market regulator can not guarantee fair market competition if it does not.

(3) Canadian model

The British side stressed that Canada does not have a domestic regulatory body, but it has signed a trade agreement with the European Union. The European Union believes that the size of the British economy and its closeness with Europe are different from those of Canada and cannot be compared.

(4) Small business

In July, the government announced that more loans to small businesses in the UK (CBS) could be suspended as much as GBP 300000. The British government and industry groups lobbied to relax the European temporary state aid F There are no rules to ensure that small businesses can benefit from bankruptcy.
