Cotton Imports Continued To Rise, With The United States Accounting For Two-Thirds

In July, China's cotton imports continued to pick up, but still decreased year on year. Among the modes of trade, the general trade is the largest, with more than 60%; the logistics goods in the areas under special customs supervision rank the second, nearly 30%; and the import and export goods and imported materials processing in bonded supervision places are less than 10%. Among the source countries, the United States was still the largest, ranking first for four consecutive months, accounting for 66%; India ranked second, accounting for 11%; Brazil and Australia ranked behind, accounting for 7% and 6%; others were less than 3%.

According to the data of the General Administration of customs, in July 2020, China's cotton import volume was 148300 tons, up 64.3% month on month, down 9.4% year-on-year; the average import price was 1520 US dollars / ton, down 109 US dollars or 6.7% compared with June, and still down 23.4% year on year. In the first seven months of 2020, China imported 1046600 tons of cotton, a year-on-year decrease of 22.0%. In the first 11 months of 2019 / 20, imports totaled 1.4616 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 24.5%.

From January to June 2020, China's textile and garment exports totaled US $156.48 billion, up 5.6% year-on-year, including US $90.08 billion of textile exports, a year-on-year increase of 31.1%, and clothing exports of US $66.4 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 16.6%. In July, textile and clothing exports reached US $31.3 billion, up 16.1% year-on-year. Among them, textile exports were $15.98 billion, up 49.3% year-on-year, and clothing exports were $15.32 billion, down 5.7% year-on-year. In July 2020, China's cotton yarn import volume was 170000 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 15%. In the first seven months of 2020, a total of 990000 tons of cotton yarn were imported, a year-on-year decrease of 12.3%.

In July, logistics goods in general trade and special customs supervision areas increased, ranking first and second respectively, while others declined.

In July, only Brazil and Uzbekistan, among the five major source countries, decreased, while others increased.

The average import price of the mode of trade only increased by 3.33%, while the average import price of general trade, inbound and outbound goods in bonded supervision places and logistics goods in special customs supervision areas decreased by 7.72%, 10.42% and 4.49% respectively.

The average import prices of major source countries decreased by 7.12% and 7.14% in the United States and Brazil, and increased by 0.14% and 4.31% in India and Australia, respectively.
