The guardian, the mainstream media in Tanzania, recently reported that the AU Commission called for the resolution of the issue of non-tariff barriers in order to achieve the main objectives of the free trade area agreement on the African continent. The Au said that Africa will become the world's largest free trade area, but the process will slow down if the issue of non-tariff barriers is not solved. However, the African Union also said that although all parties concerned recognized the negative impact of non-tariff barriers on intra regional trade, efforts to solve the problem had little effect. According to the report, the success of the free trade area agreement on the African continent depends to a certain extent on whether the governments concerned can track down and remove non-tariff barriers.
