After years of development, China's textile and clothing industry has obvious competitive advantages, with a complete industrial chain and many developed industrial clusters. China is a large textile production and export country. In the past five years, China's textile and clothing industry exports have maintained a stable growth. In the first three quarters of 2020, stimulated by the epidemic situation, textile exports increased significantly, pushing the overall export growth of textile and clothing industry by more than 9%; at the same time, the export structure changed, and the proportion of textile exports exceeded that of clothing exports for the first time, reaching 55%.

Textile and clothing are people's daily consumer goods. The market of textile and clothing industry can be divided into textiles and clothing.

Textiles include yarn and other textile raw materials, knitted fabrics, woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, medical textiles and other finished products. It can be divided into men's clothing and women's clothing. China is one of the earliest textile producing countries in the world. Its main producing areas are Puyuan in Zhejiang Province and Qinghe in Hebei Province. After years of development, China's textile and clothing industry has obvious competitive advantages, with a complete industrial chain, a high level of processing, many developed industrial clusters, etc., China is a large textile production and export country.

Export volume of textile industry increased by more than 9%

In the past five years, China's textile and clothing industry's export has maintained a steady growth, with the export volume remaining above 270 billion US dollars. In the first three quarters of 2020, the cumulative export of textile and clothing reached US $215.78 billion, an increase of 9.3%.

In the first three quarters of 2020, textile exports increased by 33.7% to 117.95 billion US dollars, while clothing exports decreased by 10.3% to 97.83 billion US dollars.

It can be seen that affected by prices and other factors, China's textile exports in recent years are lower than the clothing exports, but in the first three quarters of 2020, China's textile exports exceeded the clothing exports for the first time. The growth of textile exports was mainly affected by the epidemic situation. The export volume of anti epidemic materials such as masks and protective clothing increased significantly, which promoted the export volume of China's textile and clothing industry to a large extent.

For a long time, China's textile and clothing products export structure, textile exports accounted for less than 45%, clothing exports accounted for more than half of the textile and clothing industry exports. In 2020, the export structure of textiles and clothing will change significantly, the proportion of textile exports will reach nearly 55%, and the export of clothing products will drop to about 45%.

Positive export to emerging markets

From the perspective of export market, the scale of China's exports to traditional developed countries will decline in 2019, while exports to emerging markets will be more positive. In 2019, China's textile and clothing exports to the United States, the European Union and Japan decreased by 6.6%, 4.4% and 4.6% respectively on a year-on-year basis; the total textile and clothing exports to countries along the "belt and road" increased by 3.7%; and the textile and clothing exports to Africa increased by 8.4% year-on-year.

In 2020, the structure of China's textile and clothing export market will also change greatly due to the spread of overseas epidemic situation and the different epidemic prevention efforts of various countries. Due to the epidemic in many countries in Europe, China's exports of masks and other textiles to the traditional developed countries such as the European Union, the United States, Germany and so on accelerated. In terms of the international environment, there is still room for expansion and opportunities in the international market. China's textile enterprises should overcome the difficulties such as the rise of raw materials, the appreciation of RMB and the adjustment of export tax rebate, seize the opportunity of the development of the textile industry, improve the industrial concentration, curb the blind expansion of inefficient production capacity, increase the construction of characteristic industrial parks, strengthen the pace of independent innovation, enhance the brand construction of China's textile industry, and carry out industrial adjustment and upgrading, so as to make China's textile industry from textile industry to textile industry A big country strides into a textile power.
