The main growth point of OLED panel sales comes from the smart watch and TV market, and the panel shipment of smart phones and tablet computers has declined compared with that in 2019. Among them, wrgb OLED, folding screen OLED and OLED for smart watch, which are suitable for commercial OLED TV, have led to the increase of panel.

According to UBI data, Samsung has shipped 390 million OLED panels for smartphones in 2020, down 9.3% year-on-year. In 2020, Samsung's OLED market share will drop from 81.6% to 68.2%; LG display (LGD) will ship US $6.87 billion of OLED panels, and its market share will double to 21% thanks to higher OLED TV shipment and OLED supply agreement with apple mobile phone; BOE's OLED sales volume will reach 1.86 billion US dollars, and its market share will increase to 5.7%.

In 2021, with the release of OLED capacity, the penetration rate of OLED panel will also enter a growth period.

Further release of OLED TV panel capacity

At present, high-end TV is the main application scenario for large-size OLED panels. The proportion of high-end TV in the overall TV market is not high. At present, only LGD can be mass produced. However, in 2021, the large-scale OLED market will have new changes.

On the one hand, the capacity began to accelerate the scale-up. According to the latest data of discien, between 2017 and 2020, LGD's investment amount has exceeded 20 billion US dollars, most of which went to OLED, and the production capacity of OLED has also increased significantly, and the total capacity has reached 150k / month. These capacities support the rapid increase of OLED panel shipment, which will be 4.5m in 2020 and 73% to 7.8m in 2021. The penetration rate in the global TV market has exceeded 2%. As the strongest backing to open up the market, the production capacity of OLED has formed a scale and has plans to continue to expand. Based on the development of production capacity and six years of cultivation, the product line of large-size OLEDs will be expanded from the original 55 inches to 55 / 65 / 77 inches, and the size range will be expanded to seven by 2021.

On the other hand, more brands are stepping into the field of large-size OLED to break the unique situation of LGD. Previously, Samsung's SDC has announced the construction of OLED production line, which is likely to join the supply in 2021. After TCL technology took a stake in joled last year, it also plans to build large-scale OLED production lines in Guangzhou.

TCL technology financial report shows that its Guangdong Juhua and joled, which is a strategic shareholder, accelerate the industrial production and ecological construction of printing and display technology, and Huarui optoelectronics will actively promote the OLED of independent IP And qled material development, its red light emitting auxiliary layer (rprime) material and green light main body (GH) material have been sent to domestic panel manufacturers for testing, and more than 30 core patents of printed OLED materials have been distributed.

For large-scale OLEDs, high cost has always been a difficult problem to popularize, and the cost has decreased since last year. According to Dixian consulting, before 2020, the cost of OLED panel was 5 times higher than that of LCD panel in peak period, which became a resistance to promotion. "By this year, with the scale of OLED panel increasing, cost decreasing and LCD price rising rapidly at the same time, taking 55 inch as an example, the price multiple of OLED panel has dropped to 2-2.5 times, greatly enhancing the competitiveness of OLED".

OLED product penetration will increase

In the field of smart phone applications, Chen Jun, deputy general manager and chief analyst of group intelligence consulting, told reporters: "in 2020, the domestic shipment of OLED smart phone panels will be about 83 million, and it is estimated that the shipment volume of OLED smart phone panels in mainland China will be about 100 million in 2021."

From the perspective of global smart phone terminals, "the proportion of flexible OLEDs will expand rapidly, mainly driven by apple. In 2020, the penetration rate of rigid + flexible will be 31%, flexible will account for 16%, and rigidity will account for 15%. In 2021, the overall penetration rate of both will increase to 40%," Chen Jun further said, "the increase of flexible OLED penetration rate will also be driven by the supply side. After 2021, including The production capacity of vicino V3 production lines, BOE Mianyang Chongqing and Tianma flexible OLED gradually began to release, and the supply side is also promoting the rapid increase of flexible OLEDs. "

For example, BOE currently has four AMOLED production lines. According to the reporter's understanding, BOE OLED has entered the apple mobile phone chain. TCL Huaxing's T4 flexible AMOLED production line has achieved full production in phase I, and equipment in phase II and phase III is gradually moving in.

Omdia's research report also shows this trend, with AMOLED accounting for 29% of total smartphone display shipments in 2020. In 2020, flexible OLEDs will surpass rigid OLEDs in smartphone screens. In 2021, OLED displays are expected to account for 40% of smart phone displays, which will make OLED the mainstream of smart phone displays.

According to the report, LTPS TFT LCD will decrease from 37.7% in 2020 to 31.4% in 2021, and a-Si TFT LCD will decrease from 33% in 2020 to 28.7% in 2021. In 2026, OLED displays are expected to account for 45% of all smartphone displays, while LTPS TFT LCDs will decrease to 28.6% and a-Si TFT LCDs will decrease to 27.1%.

At the same time, Li Yaqin, general manager of group intelligence consulting, told the 21st century economic reporter that OLED panels are also extending to it panel products.
