Jointly with the Urumqi Municipal Bureau of Commerce and industry, we conducted a quality spot check on the infants and children's clothing sold in the circulation area of Urumqi, mainly for shopping malls and wholesale markets.

In the inspection process, we mainly test the fiber content, formaldehyde, pH value, color fastness of children's clothing, and the quality and safety indicators of the banned decomposable aromatic amine dyes.

The fabric of children's clothing is generally made up of cotton, polyester fiber, nylon and spandex. Polyester fiber is not a good choice in children's clothing, but its sweat absorbability and air permeability are poor.

Color fastness testing items include friction, sweat resistance and other indicators. When children's clothing meets acid or alkali, if they are easy to decolorization, some fuels will be attached to the surface of human skin, and long-term accumulation will cause harm to the human body.

Adding formaldehyde can prevent wrinkles, shrink and flame-retardant effects, and also maintain the durability of dyeing. However, the formaldehyde products with high formaldehyde content will release formaldehyde gradually, and long-term exposure to formaldehyde can cause headache, dermatitis, eczema and other symptoms. The most serious consequence is the malignant pformation of cells, which may lead to malignant tumors and even leukemia in children.

PH value is an index for assessing the pH of fabrics, because the skin of human body is weakly acidic. If the pH value of textiles is too large from the human skin, it will stimulate the skin and destroy the balance mechanism of human body, so that bacteria can easily enter into the body and cause injury.

According to the national standard, the pH limit of category a infant clothing is 4.0-7.5, and the high pH value will stimulate infection.

The national standard prohibits the use of dyes containing decomposing carcinogenic aromatic amine substances, because it can cause cancer.

In this sampling test, the students' school uniforms exceeded the standard 2 batches, the unqualified rate was 3.9%, the hospital newborn clothing pH value exceeded the standard 3 batches, the unqualified rate was 14.4%.

Formaldehyde content and color fastness were basically qualified in this spot check.
