A team of Israel's University of Israel has used ultrasound to embed antibacterial Zinc Oxide nanoparticles into fabric fibers to form antibacterial coatings. Through this simple way of processing, almost any ordinary fabric can be turned into an antibacterial fabric. The related technology is expected to be widely used in the field of antibacterial treatment of medical textiles.

In the laboratory of Professor Aharon Gaitanken of the Department of chemistry at the University of bale, Xinhua saw the processing equipment and working principle of antibacterial coating: the antibacterial substance was placed in the groove of a reactor, and with a small "squeak", several meters long white textiles were shuttling back and forth in the reactor.

Gaitanken introduced that tiny Zinc Oxide nanoparticles are the key to successful antibacterial activity. The process of antibacterial coating is mainly a physical process. Without any chemical adhesive, the Zinc Oxide nanoparticles can be firmly bonded together to achieve the goal of highly uniform coating and stable antibacterial properties.

After the processing of antibacterial coating, medical textiles from sickbed sheets to quilts and sick clothes can become bacterial "insulators", which is expected to greatly improve the sanitary conditions of hospitals and reduce cross infection. In addition, the textiles added with antibacterial coating can be repeatedly washed, and can be maintained for 65 times in 92 degrees Celsius.

It is reported that the antibacterial coating technology has been tested and commercialized. In 2013, a Bulgarian hospital tested the coated sheets, pillowcases and sick clothes, which showed that the antibacterial effect was remarkable. The small reactor of Professor Gaitanken's laboratory has been developed into large-scale production equipment by German Brukner textile machinery company for the industrial production of textile industry. Israel textile high tech company Sonovia has obtained the right to commercialize the antibacterial fabric coating technology from the University of Ba LAN. In the future, they will provide technology. Brukner textile machinery company is responsible for expanding equipment sales.

Next, Gaitanken and his team hope to extend the technology to the research and development of food packaging materials, embedding edible antibacterial particles into food packaging bags to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, thereby reducing food waste.
