Interview With Christopher Grainger-Herr Christoph, President Of IWC Universal Watch: Two Concerns On The Rhine River, Christoph
Schaffhausen, a Swiss town near Rhine waterfall, is a city that was bombed by US forces during World War II because it was too close to Germany. These bombs destroyed more than half of the historic sites in the city, bringing the unique features of the old and new. IWC, which has a century old headquarters building, is lucky enough to avoid the bomb. Today it is almost the most famous landmark in the city. The IWC clock Museum in the building attracts almost every visitor to Schaffhausen.
The design for this museum is the first close contact between Christopher Christoph and Grainger-Herr IWC years ago. This magic versatile young man is now IWC's "old employee". He has worked well through various departments such as design, marketing, strategy and so on, until April 2017, he took over the position of president of IWC. Christoph is one of the youngest presidents in the Swiss watch industry, and IWC is a brand with 150 years of history and rich tradition. In the first two years, what is the focus of Christoph?

New tabulation center, optimize the integration of precise deployment
One of the achievements is a new IWC watchmaking center not far from headquarters. The black glass pane facade and the white flat roof beyond the building facade form a contrast visual impact screen. The Christoph, a huge building designed with a monumental aesthetic, is a tribute to the brand's birthday of 150th anniversary, and he plans for the future of the brand. "It will be seen in the next ten years." Christoph sat in a transparent and sunny conference room on the new riverside watch center on the riverside of Rhine, smiling.
This is not a building that only provides modern production conditions and excellent working environment. It represents an accurate strategic deployment of optimization and integration. With its careful design, it carries the overall attention of Christoph for efficiency and cooperation. The watchmaking center was built and put into operation in 2018, making the whole production process seamless. In the history of IWC, for the first time, the watchcase production, the original production and the core assembly of the machine were all concentrated under the same coordinated and highly flexible eaves. About 1500 kinds of core parts were produced here, and a series of brand self-made movements from 32 type automatic upper chain movement to 94 advanced complex mechanism were assembled, showing a strong ability of comprehensive integration. The close proximity between office and production workshop helps to communicate, and achieves faster coordination between different departments. Ultra advanced high precision turning and milling centers, as well as experienced master watchmakers, are careful and careful in manual operation. As IWC chief operating officer Andreas Voll said, "this new building gives us the opportunity to accurately deploy the production process to achieve the best possible condition. From raw materials to single core components to finished products, the whole set of value creation processes are deployed in the same floor in logical sequence. This is my dream since I joined the IWC universal watch in 2007.
Looking at people from different angles and different dimensions
Another focus of Christoph is human beings. First is the consumer. In November 19th, IWC released an important message to launch the "MY IWC" plan to extend its international warranty service from two years to eight years, extending all IWC watches sold over the past two years. This seemingly simple action to satisfy customer needs is not easy. It means a lot of strength and dedication. Since its accession to the presidency, Christoph has been actively promoting a series of detailed processes such as "comprehensive service", including disassembly and demolition. To support these services, IWC keeps detailed records of every watch produced since 1885, and stores millions of parts in different categories for future generations.
Outside the consumer, the most important thing for Christoph is employees. IWC is no lack of Gros (Kurt Klaus) such a Swiss national treasure watchmaker, and the birth of every watch is also inseparable from the close cooperation of every engineer, designer and marketing professional. Christoph's job is to focus on them and maintain the enthusiasm of every employee. Christoph's employer plan includes flexible working hours, skills training and lifelong learning support. He will personally design various ergonomic working areas for his employees, set up bus stops in the tabulation center, and encourage them to commute with low carbon. IWC was awarded the "excellence workplace Institute" certification, and for the first time this year, it won the title of "best employer" in Switzerland. Christoph is very happy, because he not only focuses on factories and hardware itself, but also pays attention to software and attention to people. He hopes that they will be happy every day in IWC universal watch and have a good work experience. Because in all planning, people are very important.
This concern for people has also extended Christoph to concern about Schaffhausen's community affairs and the responsibility of "world citizens", and actively cooperate with various institutions to take care of the environment and vulnerable groups. These institutions include young children's foundation named Anthony, Laurence's sports foundation and so on.
