Kazakhstan will carry out a pilot project of digital label management for clothing and textiles before December 31, 2021, according to the information released by Kazakhstan's digital economic development center, with 15 manufacturers and importers participating in the pilot project. The manufacturers and importers participating in the pilot project can obtain the encrypted two-dimensional code including manufacturer, importer, batch number and other circulation supervision information by inputting commodity information into digital label and traceability system through special equipment. The pilot enterprises will formulate their own roadmap for the implementation of commodity labels.

Kurmangaliev, general manager of Kazakhstan's digital economy development center, said that participating in the pilot project helps enterprises understand the nuances of commodity labels in advance, optimize production processes, test equipment performance, and solve relevant problems before the formal implementation of mandatory label management. As the operator of commodity label management system, Harbin digital economic development center will test the mandatory label and traceability information system through pilot projects, and evaluate the traceability of goods in various logistics links.

According to the news, the introduction of commodity label management will help reduce illegal circulation, crack down on fake and shoddy goods and improve the competitiveness of producers. According to statistics, at present, illegal import accounts for 58% of the clothing market in Kazakhstan. In 2019, Kazakhstan's clothing and textile market scale is 980 million tenge. After banning illegal trade, it is estimated that the market size will be expanded to 33-82 billion tenge by 2025.

At present, Kazakhstan has begun to implement mandatory label management on tobacco products, with the transition period ending on October 1, 2021. A total of 5 manufacturers and 16 importers have participated in the pilot project. It is planned to start the compulsory label management of footwear products in the second half of 2021. In addition, a pilot project on digital label management of drugs, alcohol and dairy products is being implemented. (business office of Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan)
