According to today's statistical news of the General Administration of customs, from January to April this year, China's textile and clothing exports reached US $95.84 billion, an increase of 8.6% (in RMB terms, a year-on-year increase of 6.4%), a decrease of 2.6 percentage points compared with the growth rate of exports in the first quarter. Among them, the textile export was 48.82 billion US dollars, with a year-on-year increase of 11.1% (in terms of RMB, a year-on-year growth of 8.9%); Clothing exports reached US $47.02 billion, up 6.2% year-on-year (4.0% in RMB terms).

In April, China's textile and clothing exports reached US $23.59 billion, up 7.0% month on month and 1.6% compared with the same period last year (down 0.2% in RMB terms). Among them, the textile export was US $12.26 billion, with a year-on-year increase of 0.9% (in terms of RMB, a year-on-year decrease of 0.9%). Clothing exports reached US $11.33 billion, up 2.4% year-on-year (0.5% year-on-year in terms of RMB), but the growth rate was 8.5% lower than that of last month.

Under the situation that China's foreign trade development is facing increasingly complex and severe external environment, China's export trade volume of goods increased by 12.5% (in US dollars) year-on-year from January to April, reflecting the characteristics of China's strong economic resilience, full potential and wide room for maneuver. However, since the second quarter, the textile and clothing industry has been affected by the epidemic situation in many places, and foreign trade has been under great downward pressure. Only from the perspective of export performance in April, the growth rate of China's textile and garment export (1.6% in US dollar) fell by 15.2% compared with March.

Looking forward to the follow-up, the Political Bureau meeting of the CPC Central Committee at the end of April once again called for strengthening macro policy adjustment, stabilizing market players, and implementing a package of relief and assistance policies for industries, small, medium and micro enterprises and individual businesses seriously affected by the epidemic. These measures will provide support for the development of foreign trade in the next stage.
