Data Forum

From April 24 to 27, the fourth United Nations World Data Forum was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The theme slogan of this forum is "Embrace the data win-win future", focusing on four thematic areas: data innovation and cooperation, mining data value, improving data credibility, and building a good data ecology. How to produce more high-quality data, how to give full play to the role of data to achieve better decision-making, how to grasp the new trend and build a good data ecology, and how data can promote government governance and enterprise development, these are the issues of concern to the guests.

At this session of the United Nations World Data Forum, more than 1000 representatives from more than 100 countries and regions gathered together, and more than 8000 people attended the forum online to discuss many issues such as how to use data to benefit all users, improve management, and serve the future development of data. Today, when digital economy, data security and big data have become hot words on the Internet, this data forum is particularly attractive.

Liu Aihua, Deputy Secretary General of the Preparatory Committee for the Fourth United Nations World Data Forum: "The Hangzhou Declaration, the main outcome document of the Forum, emphasizes the inclusiveness of data and builds a platform for dialogue between global data producers and users. These results will play a very good role in promoting the future improvement of global statistical capacity."

He Xuming, the president-elect of the International Statistical Institute, said: "There are many companies in China from government departments to Hangzhou to Zhejiang Province, and they have made a lot of achievements in big data mining and technical support, which can be used for reference by other countries in the world."

Big data stimulates the innovation vitality of enterprises. There is an enterprise in the clothing industry that has changed from a traditional garment manufacturer to a private customized solution provider. Through the use of big data, they have achieved mass personalized clothing production by means of industrialization. Private customization requires measurement first, but unlike the tailor measurement we are familiar with, the measurement here is somewhat special.

A robot called Xiaoku can automatically collect data of 19 parts and 22 dimensions of the human body in 7 seconds through a customized interactive system. After taking photos to measure the size and selecting the fabric and style, it is time for intelligent typesetting. Plate making is a key step in garment production, which determines the shape of the whole garment. In the traditional clothing customization mode, an old tailor can only play two sets of clothes at most without a day's rest. But now?

Liu Ana, manager of Qingdao Kute Intelligent Co., Ltd.: "Customers all over the world just give us some core data, and in a few seconds, they will automatically generate the version they want and enter production."

The predecessor of this enterprise is a famous local brand in Shandong, with the highest annual sales of 3 billion yuan. But in the fierce competition, enterprises are increasingly feeling the crisis. Transformation and upgrading is the only way out. The enterprise decided to use modern and industrialized means to complete personalized clothing customization, but at this time, it encountered great resistance, and the biggest objection came from within the company.

Zhang Yunlan, chairman and president of Qingdao Kute Intelligent Co., Ltd.: "Our employees are all insiders. Ask him if it is possible to make different clothes on one assembly line? He will say that it is totally impossible. Is it possible to create a version of personalized customization in an instant? It is impossible. It takes at least one day and no rest to create a version."

In order to make the impossible possible, they began the difficult exploration of data. In the view of Zhang Yunlan, the head of the enterprise, the most difficult thing is to establish a version database.

The exploration of new technologies has never been easy. It took several years just to establish the version database. At that time, when they experimented with the first assembly line, the number of orders was very small. Now, they order 4000 pieces every day.

Now, when we enter the clothing production workshop of this enterprise, we can see that there are many fabrics in different links on the assembly line. What's amazing is that the fabrics, shapes, colors and details of these clothes are different. Now, this enterprise has achieved the digitalization of the whole process of production and management, and has become a supplier of personalized customization solutions. Nearly 100 enterprises in more than 20 industries are applying their solutions.

Today, the digital economy represented by the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence is constantly penetrating into the real economy. In 2022, the scale of China's digital economy will exceed 50 trillion yuan, accounting for more than 40% of GDP. The digital economy is becoming a new driving force and engine for China's economic growth.

As the host country, China actively shared the experience of how to play the role of data to promote government governance, enterprise transformation and social development at the forum. Data decision-making, data governance and data innovation are an indispensable part of building a digital China and a smart society. This concept has increasingly become the common consensus and positive action of all countries. A world based on data has been presented to us, bearing good expectations, as well as potential risks and threats. We should make good use of and manage data, deepen international data cooperation, help implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with the "governance of data", and promote the win-win future of the digital era for all countries in the world.
