Through the implementation of the heavy saline alkali land improvement project, the cotton yield per mu increased by nearly 80 kg.

The cotton field planted is one of the four core demonstration areas identified in the "Fourteenth Five Year Plan" national key research and development project "Xinjiang Oasis Water Saving and Salt Restraining Irrigation and Drainage Synergistic Capacity Improvement Technology Mode and Application" led by the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which is implemented by the research group of "Water Saving and Salt Restraining Irrigation and Drainage Synergistic Regulation Technology Mode and Demonstration" under the project.

In the first year of planting cotton, the emergence rate was only 30%. This year, after the implementation of the heavy saline alkali land improvement project, the yield increased and the income increased.

The Kashi Prefecture Bureau of Science and Technology organized an expert group consisting of China Agricultural University, Xinjiang Agricultural and Rural Department, Kashi Prefecture Agricultural Technology Promotion Center, etc. to conduct strict field yield measurement of cotton planted in the demonstration area. The results of yield measurement show that the effective number of cotton plants harvested in the comprehensive technical management area of concealed pipe salt drainage is 13960 per mu, the seedling protection rate is 75.4%, the single boll weight of cotton is 5.8 g, and the cotton yield per mu is 347.3 kg; In the control area (untreated area), the effective number of cotton plants harvested is 9180 per mu, the seedling protection rate is 49.6%, the single boll weight of cotton is 5.8 g, and the cotton yield per mu is 267.5 kg; The number of cotton plants effectively harvested per mu increased by 4780, the seedling protection rate increased by 25.8%, and the average yield per mu increased by 79.8 kg.

More than 90% of the cultivated land in Jiashi County is salinized to varying degrees, and nearly 40% of it is severely salinized. " Huang Jiesheng, a professor of Wuhan University and the person in charge of the core demonstration area of Jiashi County, said.

Salinity monitoring shows that after the implementation of the comprehensive technology of underground pipe drainage and salt drainage this year, the soil salinity of cotton field has decreased from 18.8 g per kg to 10.6 g per kg on average, and the degree of soil salinization has changed from severe to moderate.

Director of Institute of Soil Fertilizers and Agricultural Water Saving, Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences Xu Wanli, chief expert of Xinjiang Oasis Water Saving and Salt Restraining Irrigation and Drainage Collaborative Capacity Improvement Technology Mode and Application Project, said: "With the decrease of soil salinity, the rate of cotton seedling protection can be increased. At the same time, combined with the comprehensive application of water and fertilizer coordinated and efficient regulation technology, fulvic acid salt alkali improver, organic fertilizer soil fertility and other technologies, we are confident that in two or three years, this heavy saline alkali land will be improved into a high-yield field."

Du Mingwei, the leader of the production measurement expert group and professor of China Agricultural University, said that the results of salt monitoring and field production measurement showed that the integrated technology of underground pipe drainage and salt drainage could be fully applied in other areas in Xinjiang where similar salinization occurred, especially in areas with high soil salt content and high groundwater level.
