"Pei Wenxuan's costume in the play combines wax printing, pattern dyeing, Youchan dyeing, hanging dyeing and other complex processes, and the fabric is very special, only one out of a dozen pieces." Recently, the ancient costume drama "Du Hua Nian" has been popular, and the visual expression with the reality of traditional Chinese aesthetics has been praised by the audience, Wang Yan, a young wax dyeing craftsman from Waigang Town, Jiading, also participated in the dyeing of costume patterns in the play.

"We repeatedly polished according to the model provided by the modeling instructor Guo Baobao. For example, the character Li Chuan in the play had a set of cape shapes that were hand tied and dyed with roe patterns. My assistant and I took turns to tie 18000 roes one by one. It took more than half a month, and the hands were all polished with bubbles. The final effect was very good," Wang Yan said.

In Wang Yan's studio, Returning to the Batik Art Museum, various batik works are placed orderly, ranging from rings and hairbands to screens and curtains, as well as many art installations made of "leftover materials".

It is understood that Wang Yan currently works in Shanghai Vocational and Technical College of Industry and Commerce. He has studied batik art for 10 years. Its works are novel, both ornamental and practical, creating a unique new type of batik art in the market.

Previously, Wang Yan met Guo Baobao by showing his batik works on the social media platform. The two often discussed the production of traditional handicrafts, and finally reached a cooperation in the production of the clothing of Du Hua Nian. "Mr. Guo has always adhered to Chinese traditional handicrafts and kept improving the pattern making process. He not only hopes that elaborate costume design can serve the story in the play, so that the characters in the play can look classical and fashionable, but also hopes that traditional handicrafts can have more opportunities to show and be better inherited." Wang Yan introduced that, The costume modeling of the costume troupe is a huge task, and there are many uncertainties in pure manual production. With the encouragement of Guo Baobao, she made bold attempts and innovations.

It is reported that the costume design in the play "Du Hua Nian" refers to professional works such as "Chinese Pattern Series", "Complete Works of Chinese Embroidery Clothing", "Research on Chinese Ancient Clothing", etc. The overall aesthetic follows the elegant and elegant style of the Wei and Jin dynasties, and integrates elements that meet the aesthetic requirements of the current young audience, all of which are hand polished.
