Textile Raw Materials

On the 13 day, from the Qin terracotta Museum, it was learned that since June 13, 2009, third excavations have been carried out in pit No. 1 of Qin Terracotta Army.

After a year's cleaning up, a great number of important relics were discovered by the staff of the archaeological team of the Terracotta Army Museum. Besides the pottery figurine, Tao Ma, bronze weapons and wooden cars, many textile materials were collected, which provided valuable physical data for studying the history of silk fabrics such as the Qin and Han Dynasties.

It is understood that the excavation site is located in the middle part of the North pit of the pit No. 1, belonging to the 200 square meter area approved by China National Cultural Relics Bureau.

In excavation work, attention should be paid to the extraction of details, through the drum ring.

The scene cleaning and microscopic photography of vehicle tracks were made, and the warp and weft numbers of fabrics for different uses were preliminarily counted, and samples were extracted for inspection.

Zhang Tianzhu, deputy captain of the 1st pit archaeological team, said that 3 boxes were found in the clearance of two chariots, which were rare materials in the excavation of the Qin terracotta pits.

Although these boxes are burned by fire, they are clear in shape, coated with fabric and then painted in layers.

After the embryo is rotten, it is thin as the cicada, should be the cortex; the fabric is dense and warlike, like silk; there are remnant red, blue and white cloud patterns on the lid.

The bottom of the machine is workmanship, surrounded by 45 degrees seams, and the seam is 3 millimeters.

A series of problems such as the naming, use and nature of the object need further study.

The wooden drum was cleaned up in 2 places, and the knot fabric found in a copper ring in the 1 ruins of the drum was closely linked to the warp and weft. It was initially judged to be silk. It provided important materials for studying the history of silk fabrics such as the Qin and Han Dynasties.

Experts here say that they can be preserved in archaeological excavations in Shaanxi.
