Excessive Heavy Metals In Tobacco

The ninth session

Asia Pacific tobacco

Or the health conference was held in Sydney, Australia today.

The theme of the 2010 conference is to change, challenge and improve the Framework Convention on tobacco control in the Asia Pacific region.

More than 600 people from more than 40 countries and regions took part in the conference.

A comparative study of tobacco from China and other countries released by the conference showed that 13 brands of cigarettes produced in China were detected.

heavy metal

The content of heavy metals such as lead, arsenic and cadmium in tobacco is more than three times higher than that in Canada.

The researchers used Canadian cigarettes to compare with Chinese cigarettes because Canadian law stipulates that tobacco producers and importers must detect metal content in tobacco, and the Canadian Ministry of Health recently disclosed the relevant data.

It is known as the international tobacco control policy assessment project. It involves more than 80 tobacco control studies. The researchers are from more than 20 countries, including China, the United States, Canada and Australia, which mainly evaluate the WHO Framework Convention on tobacco control.

Tobacco control policy

Influence.

Geoffrey, a leading member of the research team and the University of Waterloo in Canada, said that consumers in many countries know what ingredients in chocolate are and what they do not know.

This is a fundamental mistake in safeguarding our rights.

This requires more research to detect the components of cigarettes and their burning smoke to help governments and consumers make informed decisions.

Richard OConnor, a researcher at the Rothwell Parker Cancer Institute in New York, pointed out that smokers and non smokers have the right to know what ingredients are contained in cigarettes.

Tobacco contains lethal ingredients, and there is an urgent need for strong intervention in cigarette products and strict compliance with the WHO Framework Convention on tobacco control.

Canadian researcher Professor Fang finally stressed that Chinese people know little about tobacco harm. If they do not take effective measures, China will soon fall into an unprecedented public health disaster.

As a state party to the Framework Convention on tobacco control, China must take effective measures to protect citizens from tobacco harm.
